UN3291 (Regulated Medical or Clinical Waste)

Also: UN3291, clinical waste, regulated medical waste

The dangerous-goods entry for waste from the medical treatment of humans or animals, or from bio-research, that contains Category B infectious substances.

UN3291 covers clinical waste and regulated medical waste. It is carried under Class 6.2, and it is a different entry from UN3373 even though the underlying material is Category B.

Waste containing Category A material does not fall here. It remains UN2814 or UN2900, or, where the provisions for solid Category A medical waste apply, UN3549. Whether a consignment is waste at all is asked before the waste entry is reached in the infectious substance classifier.
